Sunday Afternoon Blog

It's another weekend and I am here in Kasagingan to check some emails, checking my social networks and to do my blogs. I'll be suming up my week in several separate blog titles.

grand ma's birthday

Personal Events: Grandma's Birthday
September 28 was a special date for me because its my grandmothers birthday (Happy Birthday Lola). We are gonna celebrate her birthday today because it's a Sunday.

programming
The Programming Mind

When I was still in college, I always like the idea of programming because of the cool softwares (web stuffs) that we can develop from it (*Sigh, electrical engineering was also cool before I learned computers). I may have learned web developing on my own by researching on the net and some proper training by attending short courses in web developing but still the I am envious of the fact of some of my colleagues are "experts" in Visual Basic, .NET, C#/C++ , Java and other programming languages that is known. The desire to learn was and still is running through my head, yet patience has been one of my weakness when in terms of learning stuffs that I barely understand (though I got through learning HTML, PHP and Javascripting).

Persiverance is now my motto when I think about learning programming.

To start off, I am downloading some open source Development IDEs (Integrated Development Editors) particularly Eclipse IDE and Aptana WEB IDE since I'm planning to some programming (for non-uber geeks, Eclipse is a versatile software editor for developing Java, C++, Ruby On Rails, PHP and other open source projects).

Another Saturday Afternoon Blogging

It's another weekend of blogging for me and I'm back at Basti's Brew (Kasagingan had a problem with their internet connection so I had to "reroute" my butt off to Basti's Brew here in Victoria Plaza (for those who are not familiar with place, its in Davao City, Philippines).

It was a busy week for me as I am undergoing another set of web programming training (for those who in the web developing business I'm undergoing training for web application frameworks, particularly CodeIgniter and CakePHP). It was "a head squeezing" training yet if got this it would reallybenefit me in the long run ( i'm planning on building the blog section of my website around Codeigniter like my friend Roy's website ).

Glad to have to be working for a international company that has only 5 working days (unlike in local-based companies that work until Saturday) because I have an extra day quality time for family (My wife and I are expecting our first baby :D).

No Power? Longer Work Hours

Because of the blackout that went almost 6 hours long, our work has been rescheduled. Either we could comply the 6 hours of unused time by working on offset hours after the regular work schedule or work on this coming Saturday.

Since working on Saturday is not possible because of my wife's weekly checkup with the obstetrician, I took the other option on working 2 additional hours for three consecutive days, though I'm allowed to work the offset hours at home.

Well its a company policy to comply the time occurred during situations like power outages.

Fatherhood 101 : Bought A Cabinet For Baby's Things

My Wife and I where planning for months to buy a cabinet for which we could use to store our baby's things and toys. So after attending church, we went to MAKRO to see if there are some nice cabinets that we could buy. Alas! we found a nice wooden cabinet suitable for our upcoming "angel".

It took me about an hour and a half to finish assembling the cabinet.

Shanghai Kiss: Diversity and Romance

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Yesterday (Sunday) was a day of R and R for me so I decided to watch some DVD movie. I borrowed from my brother this new DVD titled "Shanghai Kiss".

Short Summary of the Movie:

Liam Liu (Ken Leung), an Chinese-American actor living in Los Angeles unwittingly gets involved with a high school girl(Adelaide played by Hayden Panettiere). He suddenly has to go to China after learning from his father that he has inherited his grandmother's home in Shanghai. He's not being appreciative of his Chinese roots and at first only wants to sell the house and get back to the U.S. as fast as possible. He gets a taste of the Chinese culture after meeting a girl there (Micki played by Kelly Hu) and end up having some big decisions to make.
Post Commentary: It's ok if you want to explore your roots yet if doing so sacrifices your way of life, your friends and loveones, then its not a good decision.

Remembering This Movie : Rockstar (2001)

"Rock Star is a 2001 movie starring Mark Wahlberg and directed by Stephen Herek. The film also stars Jennifer Aniston. It was shot almost entirely in and around Los Angeles, but takes place it Pittsburgh.

The movie depicts, approximately, the life of an '80s heavy metal band, with the highs and lows of fame, drugs, rock and roll, and groupies. The band depicted in the movie, Steel Dragon, is fictional.

The film was inspired by the real-life story of Tim 'Ripper' Owens, singer in a Judas Priest tribute band who was chosen to replace singer Rob Halford when he left the band. The original title of the movie was to be Metal God, similar to signature Judas Priest song "Metal Gods".

This is the executive producer debut of George Clooney, Wahlberg's co-star from Three Kings and The Perfect Storm."

This bloggers comments: Honestly, I always like metal music until now. Rockstar has shown us what its like having a 'Rockstars' life during those times (this was the 80's). Music during this times where the best (from hard rock, pop, new wave and rap) that is why most of the songs from this era are being revived. Although the movie itself didn't break into the box office but it gives a slight documentation of what was the life then during the metal band trend in the States.

Jose Rizal : Our very own Polymath

"What is a Polymath?"

A polymath is a person with encyclopedic, broad, or varied knowledge or learning.

The dictionary definition is consistent with informal use, whereby someone very knowledgeable is described as a polymath when the term is used as a noun, or polymath or polymathic when used as adjectives. It especially means that the person's knowledge is not restricted to one subject area. The term is used rarely enough to be included in dictionaries of obscure words.

A polymath may be a person who knows a great deal about several fields of study, a person who has proficiency and competence in multiple fields, or even a person who has excelled in multiple fields.

Renaissance Man and Homo Universalis are related terms to describe a person who is well educated, or who excels, in a wide variety of subjects or fields.

The Art and Science of Symmetry

SYMMETRY
Symmetry is a characteristic feature of geometrical shapes, systems, equations, and other real or conceptual objects —typically, in which one half of the object appears to be a reflection (i.e., a "mirror") of the other half.

In formal terms, we say that an object is symmetric with respect to a given mathematical operation, if, when applied to the object, this operation does not change the object or its appearance. Two objects are symmetric to each other with respect to a given group of operations if one is obtained from the other by some of the operations (and vice versa).

Similarity vs. Sameness
Although two objects with great similarity appear the same, they must logically be different. For example, if one rotates an equilateral triangle around its center 120 degrees, it will appear the same as it was before the rotation to an observer. In theoretical Euclidean geometry, such a rotation would be indistinguishable from its previous form. In reality however, each corner of any equilateral triangle composed of matter must be composed of separate molecules in separate locations. Therefore, symmetry in real physical objects is a matter of similarity instead of sameness. The difficulty for an intelligence to differentiate such a seemingly exact similarity is understandable.

Symmetry in Aesthetics
Symmetry does not by itself confer beauty to an object — many symmetrical designs can be boring or overly challenging, and on the other hand preference for, or dislike of, exact symmetry is apparently dependent on cultural background. Along with texture, color, proportion, and other factors, symmetry does however play an important role in determining the aesthetic appeal of an object

Page Rank Checker: How Significant Is This Tool?

Naruto Mania

Naruto has been one of most talk about anime series nowadays. Everyone around the net has been jumping on the Naruto bandwagon to the point that a lot of friendster user use the Naruto graphics and picture for their account design.

I asked myself "What makes this anime series more interested than any other anime series".

To satisfy my curiosity, I borrowed a bootleg DVD box set of the first anime series from my friend whose also into Naruto (albeit only up to episode 182, so I have to continue watching episodes 183 to 220 on YouTube).

The story was about Naruto Uzumaki, a loud, hyperactive and upredictable adolescent ninja named who is in constant search for recognition and has ambitioned that one days he would become Hokage, which is acknowledged as the leader and strongest of all ninja in their village. The other protagonist are Sasuke Uchiha and Sakura Haruno and their mentor, Kakashi Hatake).

In my personal opinion, watching this series would make you laugh because of Naruto's childish attitude and other funny moments involving the other characters in the series.
