Blog Hopping, Optimizing Adsense & Blogging Offline

As of this writing, I don't have an internet connection at home. I don't know the reason why. Thinking that there was a technical problem, I called customer service to check what really happened. Alas, I was greeted only by the answering machine and the constant ringing of the phone. I assumed that everybody was also experiencing this predicament. Well as always my only mean to handle this internet isolation was to do write some blogs offline using my trusty OpenOfficeWriter (I'm an Open Source person, I don't like to limit myself to propriety softwares).

Anyways, during my lunch break earlier, I was able to do some blog-hopping. I aslo joined blog communities like Mindanao Blogger, Davao Blogs and DVO Blog Network to increase the traffic of my blogs. I was able to read some tips about Adsense optimization which I did immediately on all of my blogs.

Now that my Adsense are now optimized, I would hope that would increase my revenue. But still being offline is still a blogger's worst nightmare.

Serene Japanese Computer Messages

Here are 16 actual error messages seen on the computer screens in Japan, written in Traditional Japenese Haiku.

English Is A Crazy Language

a diatribe by: Richard Lederer

Let's face it -- English is a crazy language.
There is no egg in eggplant nor ham in hamburger; neither apple nor pine in pineapple.
English muffins weren't invented in England or French fries in France.
Sweetmeats are candies while sweetbreads, which aren't sweet, are meat.

We take English for granted. But if we explore its paradoxes, we find that quicksand can work slowly, boxing rings are square and a guinea pig is neither from Guinea nor is it a pig.

And why is it that writers write but fingers don't fing, grocers don't groce and hammers don't ham?
If the plural of tooth is teeth, why isn't the plural of booth beeth?
One goose, 2 geese. So one moose, 2 meese... One blouse, 2 blice?

Doesn't it seem crazy that you can make amends but not one amend, that you comb through annals of history but not a single annal?
If you have a bunch of odds and ends and get rid of all but one of them, what do you call it?

If teachers taught, why didn't preachers praught?
If a vegetarian eats vegetables, what does a humanitarian eat?
If you wrote a letter, perhaps you bote your tongue?

Sometimes I think all the English speakers should be committed to an asylum for the verbally insane.
In what language do people recite at a play and play at a recital?
Ship by truck and send cargo by ship?
Have noses that run and feet that smell?
Park on driveways and drive on parkways?

How can a "slim chance" and a "fat chance" be the same, while a "wise man" and "wise guy" are opposites?
How can overlook and oversee be opposites, while "quite a lot" and "quite a few" are alike?
How can the weather be "hot as hell" one day and "cold as hell" another?

Have you noticed that we talk about certain things only when they are absent?
Have you ever seen a horseful carriage or a strapful gown?
Met a sung hero or experienced requited love?
Have you ever run into someone who was combobulated, gruntled, ruly or peccable?
And where are all those people who are spring chickens or who would actually hurt a fly?

You have to marvel at the unique lunacy of a language in which your house can burn up as it burns down, in which you fill in a form by filling it out and in which an alarm clock goes off by going on.

English was invented by people, not computers, and it reflects the creativity of the human race (which, of course, isn't a race at all).
That is why, when the stars are out, they are visible, but when the lights are out, they are invisible.
And why, when I wind up my watch, I start it, but when I wind up this essay, I end it.

Tinker...Tinker..BOOM!

You might noticed that some of the adsense and elements are missing from this blogsite, Well I did some tinkering on the Edit HTML section by copying a free blogger theme from a website. The Result? all my blogroll links are missing. And my CBOX got broken. Oh well. I'll try fixing this tommorow.

Anyways here's a lesson to learn when customizing your blog: BACKUP all your DATAS!

Fade into....Black

The decision to change theme was because 1.) I like the black theme because its not that heavy to the eyes and also 2.) its not heavy to the monitor power usage.

I will also try to customize the blogsite into my personalized theme.

That would be soon.

The Company Team Building Experience & The Japanese Coy

The Team Building Activity

Our company had a team building activity earlier today which was held in High Ponds Resort(located in Binugao, Toril, Davao City) and it was a very rewarding experience. Aside from meeting the other co-workers from the other shifts, we also had team-based activities which has helped build rapport each other and to get to know each other better.

Aside from the team-based activities, we also had a seminar on How to Resolve Conflicts without Killing Each Other which was enjoyable (with all the wittiness of the resource person) and enlightening because we are able to know how to handle conflicts better without compromising our work and the company itself.

This activity was the first for the company but this won't be the last since the company is getting bigger (the company is targeting on hiring 500 "agents" in 2-3 years).

After the seminar and the short awarding ceremonies for team that standout during the parlor games and activities. We were are free to roam around and explore the place.

The Japanese Coys

After the activity and we have an hour or two to explore the resort, I was able to some photography shoots of the place. But what grabbed my attention was the big fish pond filled with Japanese Coys. Although these kind of fish are common knowledge, what makes it extraordinary was the their calmness while I was taking the shots at a close range.

Facebook: Meeting More Friends

Social networking websites has been a boom since its inception. People nowadays like to interact and meet new friends thru this kind of online service. Friendster has been the choice of service here in the Philippines while most of the international community flock more to Myspace and Facebook.

Facebook initially was restricted to Harvard University then grew in numbers until it now covered majority of US colleges and now Non-college members.

The purpose of joining Facebook: wanting to meet other fellow bloggers on this service. It's good to have many friends but with reports of abuse we should becareful who we add as friends. One advantage that I see with this social network site is that any facebook member who are also developers can contribute for the improvement of the site.

Here is my FACEBOOK profile

The Bourne Trilogy: A different kind of Spy story

Last week, the 3rd and final installment of the Bourne trilogy was released to culminate the conclusion of this Robert Ludlum novel of the same title. One might think "what make the Jason Bourne story differ from any other known secret agent movies?". We compare Jason Bourne to some of the secret agents known in the movies.

*In comparison to James Bond, Jason Bourne is monogamous mostly because of his love for his dead girl who died during the Bourne Supremacy story.

*In comparison with Ethan Hunt, Bourne worked alone because he's being targeted by very agency who trained him.

*In comparison to Agent Cody Banks, well its obvious.

these are just several factor in which makes the Jason Bourne a unique secret agent. Bourne has able to live his life as David Webb after The Bourne Ultimatum but there are several events that lead to his return to his past life as Jason Bourne. In the preceding novel's by author Eric Van Lustbader titled The Bourne Legacy and The Bourne Betrayal, Jason Bourne encounters more conspiracies and the aforementioned betrayal by one of his closest friend.

Personally reading The Bourne Novel's are the best way to understand Jason Bourne more becasue some aspects of the story are sometimes altered in the movie version.

Blogging at Basti's Brew - Victoria Plaza

It was again Saturday and a time to do some relaxation with my wife. Since blogging has now one of my hobby I make it a point to blog about the place that we are in that offers wireless internet or WiFi. Today we visited Basti's Brew just outside Victoria Plaza here in Davao City. It's quite crowded because a lot of people go here to relax and try their delicious brewed coffee and other nice foods.

My wife and I ordered ham pizza and sodas while taking some pictures to document the event. I also updated my other blogsite (Digital Toolz Blog) and I posted about Content Managements Systems (CMS). The article is an overview of what CMS can do for web developers and web masters to ease their tasks in updating websites. Personally I would hope to develop my own CMS system because most of the well known CMS systems like Drupal, Joomla and Mambo are developed using PHP/MySQL. Until The next post.

The Family That Prays Together, Stays Together

I really believe in the saying by a known Catholic priest that "A Family That Prays Together, Stays Together" because it really shows that a family that is spiritually UNITED always stay solid with each other because GOD is ALWAYS the center of each family's life.

One of the Christian practices that always rewarding is to pray the rosary everyday. 30 minutes is enough time to give time to our LORD GOD.

So I encourage all of you fellow bloggers, pray together with your families because "A Family That Prays Together, Stays Together".

Web Programming Blues

I'm currently working on my 2nd project for client and it gets really frustrating because of the complexities of PHP/MySQl programming. At least doing this blog after working hours has at least alleviate some of my frustrations. Well as they always say "Its part of the job".

The Kasagingan Experience part 2...

It was Saturday. No work. So I have decided to take my wife to Kasagingan in the afternoon and do my blog hopping as well as some "R and R" with the wife. My cbox was also very active with some new potential blogger-friends wanting to exchange links with. I was really interested on one blog site that I "hopped" because his blog is about blogger templates and some tutorials on how to modify blogger templates which would be very useful for me in the near future if I decided to change the look on my blogger blogs. That's it for now...till the next post....

Blog Hopping at "The Kasagingan"

The Kasagingan is a Coffee and Banana Shop which is also a WiFi hotspot. A perfect place to do some relaxing after work. The name Kasagingan name was coined by the owner because most of their specialty are variations of banana treats like "chocolate-glazed banana" and more.

My main purpose at the time was to do some updated on my laptop's system files (antivirus and other more utilities). While waiting for the updates to finish, I did some blog hopping (I thank my co-worker Aice for this idea). I started my hopping on some of Aice's blog roll. Continue on 'til my updates where finished. Another great experience shared...til the next post. :D

(RE)LEARNING PHP programming

The Transition from a Web Designer to a Web Developer has been a continuing process in my line of work as I now embark on a "re-learning" task to know and understand PHP programming (again) in preparation on upcoming projects which involve PHP specially the Wordpress blogging system and themes.

Programming in general was one of my dreams but the idea of understanding programming concepts has not yet "sinked" in since my last PHP short-course class. I do envy the people who are really good in this kind of field and with that idea I was challenged and I understand I TOO can do programming. It's just a matter of time that things would "sink" in to mind.

As a short introduction for those who don't know what PHP is, It is an open source (meaning free) and multi-platform (meaning can be run on Windows, Linux, Mac, Solaris, Unix operating systems) web programming. Most web applications are based (partially or purely) on PHP. Some classic examples are the email sites that we usually login most of the time. The codes that handles the process of accessing your emails are mostly handled by server-side scripts which are coded in PHP.
